On Oct. 9, 2017 the cross country team ran at the 275 Conference Meet at Rockport. The team's next meet will be districts at Smithville on Oct. 28, 2017.
Junior Jessica Janorschke placed sixth out of 35 at the conference meet. She also received all-conference honors.
Compared to the team’s other meets, the conference meet was not as large.
“I think that at a smaller meet there are less people and you have a better chance of placing higher, so it pushes you to do your best,” Janorschke said.
The course at Rockport was difficult for the runners. According to Coach Brian Hansen the course was difficult and “deceptive.”
“This one hill that is really big, the wind was blowing right at me, but I made it through and after I was really proud of myself,” Janorschke said.
The cross country team has ran nine meets so far this year to help them prepare for districts.
“All the meets we run leading up to districts serve a purpose to prepare us for districts,” Hansen said.
The team is focusing on districts and are doing things at practice to prepare for districts.
“We do interval training at practice,” Carley Christgen, sophomore member of the cross country team, said. “Interval training is running hard for a short amount of time and then getting a rest and then repeating it.”
